Although the projection can be at start a little confusing since there is no effective north or south and since it is fairly different from projections most people are accustomed to (e.g. Robinson), it has many advantages. The shape and sizes of land areas have little distortion and continents are not divided. The projection is also politically neutral as it does not emphasize a specific part of the world. From a graphic standpoint, the fuller projection displays maps in a rectangular fashion that fits well on a computer screen and leaves sufficient space to place elements such as legends. However, the projection is not convenient when the information depicted relates to oceanic masses or to connections between continents.
