Fluvial Transport System, Lower Yangtze Delta
China has one of the largest inland waterway system in the world, totaling about 110,000 km. The major subsystems include the Yangtze river (72,813 km), the Pearl river (13,000 km), the Heilongjiang river (4,696 km), the Huaihe river (1,213 km) and the Grand Canal (1,044 km). The Yangtze delta has one of the largest concentration of canals and waterways in the world. Building this system took several centuries as it is jointly used for circulation and irrigation.
