The Hoftra in China Program (2012) will establish its base in Shanghai, the most well-known metropolitan city in China, where brilliant neon lights, stylish skyscrapers along with private gardens of the imperial period best project today's Chinese identity: a country both ancient and modern.
The program will be hosted in East China Normal University, which boasts the most beautiful campus in Shanghai with its meandering paths, artificial rockeries, graceful pavilions and sparkling rivers. While in Shanghai we will visit major tourist spots in the city and make two weekend excursions to nearby scenic spots, Hangzhou and Suzhong, generally known as "the paradises on the earth" in Chinese society.
A two-and-a-half-day visit to Beijing constitutes a final touch of the program where numerous historical relics will illustrate the knowledge that we learn in classes. Tourist excursions will cover the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, Yu Garden, Shanghai TV Tower, the West Lake, the Linyin Temple, the Tiger Running Spring, Six-Harmony Pagoda, the Garden of Humble Administrator, Tiger Hill, the Lion Forest Grove, the Lingering Garden and other spots. Among extra-curricular activities are Beijing Opera appreciation, Chinese acrobatics, Gongfu performance and museum visits.
