The Distinguished Service Award of the Metropolitan New York Section of
the Mathematical Association of America is presented to those individuals
who have, through their actions and efforts, rendered significant service
to further the understanding and dissemination of mathematics in the New
York area, and, in general, have helped the Metropolitan New York Section
of the Mathematical Association of America.
Such service may consist of promoting mathematics among pre-college students, helping the general public gain a better understanding of mathematical ideas and the overall importance of mathematics, helping continuously and tirelessly to organize the activities of the section, serving long and dedicated years as an officer of the section and/or other activity that furthers the interest of mathematics and the Metropolitan New York Section. This award may be presented annually to no more than 2 persons. The award will be presented at the Spring meeting of the Metropolitan New York Section. Any member of the Metropolitan New York Section may submit a nomination on their own behalf, as well as for another member to the nominating committee. All nominations that are submitted may be held for no more than three years for consideration for the award in a following year.
