Creative Arts Therapy, A Few Student Bio's

My name is Michelle Scalise, I have an undergraduate BA degree in Psychology and am currently working on a minor in Studio Art classes. I am in Creative Art Therapy program at Hoftra University (CAT) and I hope to go into private practice once I complete my studies.

My name is Samantha Corrato and I graduated in 2005 from Drexel University with a  Bachelor of Science in Psychology. In high school I had majored in the visual arts, so Art Therapy seemed a natural career decision for me, as it combines my two passions: psychology and art. While at Drexel, I worked for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, as well as the inpatient adult psychiatric unit at Hahnemann University Hospital. After obtaining my Master's Degree in Art Therapy at Hofstra University, I would like to continue to continue to work in a hospital setting, focusing mainly on the treatment of children.

My name is Brian Barry and I was just accepted into the Creative Arts Therapy program this year. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Science, a Master's degree in Creative Arts and Humanities, as well as being a certified teacher. I chose this field because I am a people person and I wish to help people. As an art therapist I will be able to reach out to people,  to understand more diverse groups of people, and help to allow them to be more socially accepted in the real world.

My name is Morgan Gaydos and I just entered into my first semester in the Creative Arts Therapy program here at Hofstra. I obtained by Bachelor’s in Psychology with a concentration in studio arts. After observing and participating in art therapy sessions with diverse clients, I found the importance of art in therapy as a means of expression, and also viewed how it benefits clients. I am looking forward to my first fieldwork opportunity where I will be observing art therapy with disabled children.

My name is Alissa Zemering, I graduated from the University of Hartford with a degree in psychology and a minor in education. I have worked with a transitional program in CT with students from the ages of 18-21 and took the roll of the art teacher there with every opportunity I had. I also volunteered in a program called Best Buddies, which is an organization that helps disabled people get involved in a social environment and more of a community. I am not sure which direction I want to go with the art therapy at this point but my original idea was to work in special education but I am broadening that thought as I learn about other areas.

My name is Katie Salerno and I am about to enter my second year in the Creative Arts Therapy Master's Program at Hofstra.  I obtained my Bachelor's in Special and Elementary Education as well as Psychology and after working in the schools as a teaching assistant for a year I felt as though there were other ways I could help children and I have found it in art therapy.  I will be interning in the fall at a school for emotionally disturbed children and am looking forward to it.

My name is Beth Liebman; I am in the first half of my first year in the Creative Arts Therapy Master’s Program at Hofstra.   My Bachelor’s was obtained in Early Childhood Education and Psychology with a minor in art.  After working in the classroom, I realized I wanted more knowledge in other areas to help children, I am finding it now through art therapy.  I am not sure yet where I will be doing my fieldwork in the fall but, I am looking forward to the learning experiences.
