Creative Arts Therapies

Health Professions Council
The Health Professions Council (HPC) is a new, independent, UK-wide regulatory body which has been set-up to regulate a group of 12 health professions including arts therapists. It came into being on April 1st 2002 replacing the CPSM.

ECArTE
The European Consortium for Arts Therapies Education was formed in 1991, its primary purpose being to represent and encourage the development of the Arts Therapies at a European level. This site has information about the Consortium and its work. Details about the September 2003 Conference in Madrid are now available here.

Arts in Therapy Network
Described as an international community for creative art therapists, this site provides links to a large number of arts therapies sites worldwide. It is also possible to join their (free) AiT e-mail community with chat room and US-based jobs and events listings.

Arts and Healing Network
Website concerned with the connection between arts and healing. Has a wide ranging collection of links to other related organisations in the US and worldwide.

Jessica Kingsley Publishers Home Page
Useful details of Jessica Kingsley's current publications on the arts therapies and related subjects.

Free Association Books
A very clearly laid out site giving details of FAB's current publications, related links and a "virtual library".

MMB Music Inc. - Creative Arts Therapy Links
Publisher's Home Page which also provides links to sites in art, drama, dance and music.

International Arts Medicine Association
This Association aims to provide a forum for interdisciplinary international communication between arts and health professionals. Links are given to a wide range of arts, health and arts therapies sites.

Birmingham Centre for Arts Therapies
BCAT aims to ensure that a quality arts therapies service is established and maintained in the U.K. It also serves as a resource centre and teaching establishment for the training, education and support of professionals and carers. Their web site is currently being revised so that further information may be available here shortly.

Northern Ireland Group for Art as Therapy
This group, now in its 25th year covers art, drama, music and movement therapies.

YAHAT
This is the site of the Israeli Association of Creative and Expressive Therapies which was founded in 1971 and operates on a purely voluntary basis.

Arts Therapies and Psychotherapy Training: An International Study
This study by Dr Helen Payne examines the use of group therapy during training. It presents a comparative analysis of data received from the dissemination of a qualitative questionnaire to 12 countries.

Treatment Choice in Psychological Therapies and Counselling: Evidence Based Clinical Practice Guideline
These clinical practice guidelines published by the Department of Health in February 2001 were developed to aid decisions about which forms of psychological therapy are most appropriate for which patients. It is anticipated that they will also be of value to people in local mental health teams and departments of psychology or psychotherapy undertaking this role.

National Arts and Disability Center
Links to numerous sites featuring the work of artists with disabilities. The purpose is to "highlight the talent within the disability community". The links are organized by artistic discipline -- visual arts, music, performing arts, media arts/film, literary and multidisciplinary.

British Association of Art Therapists
This set of pages contain details of BAAT and its work for art therapists in Britain. The pages have been recently revised and are now being regularly updated. There is much useful information here.

Art Therapy in Canada
This very useful site contains many art therapy links including details of art therapy discussion lists, conferences etc.

American Art Therapy Association
The official site of the AATA. Includes information about art therapy in various American States.

Allison Research Index of Art and Design
The ARIAD database has details of research projects in art and design carried out or in progress in the UK. It includes abstracts of arts therapies theses and projects from various Institutions.

Art Therapy on the Web
This British based site was set up by Danny Sofer after a talk given to the British Association of Art Therapists in 1996. It provides a collection of useful art therapy information.

Australian National Art Therapy Association Inc.
Details about art therapy in Australia and a small set of links to other art therapy sites.

Survivors Art Foundation
Dedicated to encourage healing through the arts, Survivors Art Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to empowering trauma-survivors with effective expressive outlets. Their message is "healing through art....art through healing".

A German langage site giving details of this unique collection of art by mental health patients

The Cunningham Dax Collection Of Psychiatric Art
Images from the art gallery, along with brief explanatory notes. These have been selected from the set of art works collected by Eric Cunningham Dax, during the course of his career in the field of treatment of psychiatric illness. One of the aims is to to give a better understanding of psychiatric illness, and especially the subjective aspect of what it feels like to have such an illness.
