Average Daily Commuting Time, European and North American Countries, 2005 (in minutes)
The average commuting time in Western Europe is 38 minutes, as opposed to 25 minutes in the United States. This figure goes as high as 45 minutes in the United Kingdom, the most congested commuting of Europe. Paradoxically, commuting times tend to be higher when public transit has a higher share of total trips. Public transit commuting trips are on average 30 to 40% longer time wise than automobile trips.
