Traffic Concentration and Lorenz Curves
The above example represents a simple system of 5 ports along a coast. In case A, the traffic for each port is the same, so there is no concentration and thus no inequality. The Lorenz curve of this distribution (red) is the same than the perfect equality line (blue); they overlap. In case B, there is some concentration of the traffic in two ports and this concentration is reflected in the Lorenz curve as it is different from the perfect equality line. Case C represents a high level of concentration in two ports and the Lorenz curve is significantly different from the perfect equality line.
