World's Largest Airports (in Millions of Passengers)
The world 20 largest airports each handle a traffic of over 40 million passengers per year. Several of the largest passenger airports may have reached their market potential with traffic stabilizing or even declining, such as for Chicago (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), Tokyo (HND) and Dallas (DFW). In such a context, the only main factor accounting for traffic change is the hub selection by air carriers. The largest absolute growth involved Beijing (PEK) with the traffic tripling between 2000 and 2010; the airport now ranks as the world's second largest.
