Major Air Freight Flows Between Regions, 2003 (in billions of ton-km)

Air freight traffic shows a similar pattern than passengers air traffic, with an even higher level of concentration around North America (United States). Routes to and from Asia-Pacific dominate air freight flows. However there are acute imbalances in air freight flows, reflecting the global specialization of manufacturing. Asia / Pacific is the most important origin, while North America is the most important destination. This obviously impacts freight rates.
