Ton-Miles of Freight Transported within the United States

Over a period of 25 years, freight transport demand in the United States has increased by about 35%. Around 3,800 billions of ton-miles of freight (including oil by pipelines) were transported in 2000. Trucking and rail accommodated about 60% of the demand.
