          Introduction

The Monarch Butterflies are a group of butterflies that live in North America. They are presently being threatened due to extreme storms this past year. A large percentage of them have already been lost. They are a fascinating creature. Take the journey of the Monarch from larvae to butterfly and witness its extraordinary metamorphosis.

          Task

It is your group’s job to research the monarch butterfly and the metamorphosis that it goes through. Use the links below to help you with this task. In addition you will be responsible for designing and constructing a project that will explain this metamorphosis. The project needs to provide information on each stage as well as contain a public awareness portion discussing the current problem facing the monarch. This will hopefully lead to more people being aware of what this species of butterfly looks like, so that we can more easily identify them.

          Process

Click on the links below. Read and take notes on the various stages of metamorphosis. In your group decide how you would like to display your information. You have the option of choosing one of the following or creating your own method:

Poster presentation

PowerPoint presentation

Cartoon

Design Project

Whichever method your group chooses, make sure to accomplish the following tasks:

1. Discuss the problem facing Monarch Butterflies

2. Illustrate and Label the stages of the metamorphosis (Make sure to make note of any identifying characteristics)

3. The final project needs to be large enough to be able to see from any place in the classroom.

4. Be able to discuss and present to the class in an organized manner.
