Teaching Interests

Law School Teaching

My primary interests are in family law, children and the law and alternative dispute resolution such as mediation and arbitration. In these areas, I teach the following courses depending on the particular academic year:

  • Alternatives to Litigation, a survey course

  • Child, Family and State

  • Family Law

  • Negotiation, Mediation and the Family Lawyer, a simulation based seminar designed to teach future family lawyers skills of client representation

I also teach courses in civil procedure. I founded the Law School’s course in New York Civil Practice, which focuses on the state rather than the federal courts. This course has an extensive internet-based course supplement, located on the LexisNexis student web site. I also have taught Federal Civil Procedure from time to time.

I have also taught a simulation course in Pre Trial Litigation in which students are organized into law firms to litigate the pre trial aspects of a simulated case.

Continuing Legal Education

I am the Program Director for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy Northeast Deposition Training Program, which is held at Hofstra Law School each June. I am also the Program Director for NITA’s New York City Deposition Programs. I have taught NITA courses in deposition and trial practice at major law firms in New York and Chicago, including Sullivan & Cromwell, Shearman & Sterling, Winston & Strawn, and Clifford, Chance.
