BIOGRAPHY I am Associate Professor of Philosophy at Hofstra University where I teach political philosophy and philosophy of law. My most abiding scholarly interest has been in developing a feminist political theory that is liberal (inspired by Rawls' later work). My recent publications include the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy's entry "Liberal Feminism" (2007), an article forthcoming in Hypatia (2009) on the possibility of a conservative feminism, and a forthcoming piece on Habermas and feminism for Habermas Handbuch: Werk und Wirkung (Metzler, 2009). Other work includes my edited volume, Varieties of Feminist Liberalism (2004), and papers in Law and Philosophy (2008) the Journal of Political Philosophy (2004), Hypatia (1996), and the Journal of Social Philosophy (2003) on liberalism and feminism.. Some papers have been reprinted in edited volumes. (My paper on Rawls, Okin and Habermas was reprinted in the Garland Series The Philosophy of Rawls (1999).I am a graduate of Dickinson College (1988), where I majored in German and Philosophy. And I received my Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook (1997), where I worked with Eva Kittay and Kenneth Baynes. I live in New York City with my husband, Joe Basile, and my two children, Karl (6) and Vera (3). Last updated: 11/24/08 |
