6th Annual CME Group Commodities Challenge

Hofstra University HQT-Hofstra Quants & Traders Club, Columbia University SIPA Energy Association and University of Houston Bauer Finance Association are sponsoring the 6 th Annual CME Group Commodities Challenge together with the CME Group/New York Mercantile Exchange and CQG. Hofstra’s Quants & Traders and Columbia ’s Energy Association will be co-hosting the New York Open Outcry Competition at the NYMEX trading floor in New York City on Friday March 13, 2009.

5th Annual NYMEX Commodities Challenge

Hofstra University HQT-Hofstra Quants & Traders Club, Columbia University SIPA Energy Association and University of Houston Bauer Finance Association sponsored the 5th Annual NYMEX Commodities Challenge together with the New York Mercantile Exchange and CQG. Hofstra’s Quants & Traders and Columbia ’s Energy Association co-hosted the Northeast Open Outcry Competition at the NYMEX trading floor in New York City on Friday April 11, 2008.

1st Annual Hofstra-NYMEX Commodities Challenge for High Schools

Dr. Karagozoglu was one of the organizers of the Hofstra-NYMEX Commodities Challenge for High Schools which was held on January 4th and 11th, 2008 in the Martin B. Greenberg Trading Room. NYMEX Commodities Challenge for High Schools is an innovative program developed by Hofstra University and the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) to introduce high school students to the exciting world of commodities markets and their impact on the economy and investments.

4th Annual NYMEX Commodities Challenge

Students in Dr. Karagozoglu's graduate Futures Markets course, took the top four places and six of the top 10 spots in the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) simulated trading competition on Friday, April 27, 2007 (click for the news release). Dr. Karagozoglu's Bio

Dr. Karagozoglu is the Academic Director of the Martin B. Greenberg Trading Room at Frank G. Zarb School of Business. More information about the facility can be found at www.hofstra.edu/tradingroom. Dedication of the facility took place on May 7, 2007 (click for the news release).

Dr. Karagozoglu received the Dean's Service Award for 2007 and Research Award for 2000 in the Frank G. Zarb School of Business.

Dr. Karagozoglu served as the Coordinator of the Hofstra-Erasmus Summer Program from 2003 to 2005. Click here for the pictures from Summer 2003.

Dr. Karagozoglu's primary research interests are in the area of futures markets, option pricing, market microstructure, interest rate derivatives and risk management. His work has been published in the Journal of Futures Markets, the Financial Review, the Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, the Journal of Fixed Income, the Review of Futures Markets, and the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money. He has presented papers at the annual conferences of the Financial Management Association, the Eastern Finance Association, the Midwest Finance Association, the Multinational Finance Society, and the International Association of Financial Engineers. He has also presented his research at the the Asia-Pacific Futures Research Symposium and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and was invited to participate Chicago Board of Trade Research Seminar.

Prior to coming to Hofstra University, Dr. Karagozoglu taught full-time at Baruch College both at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Dr. Karagozoglu received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Bogazici University, Istanbul Turkey. He received his M.B.A from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. He earned an M.Phil. and a Ph.D. in finance at Baruch College of the City University of New York, where he received the Oscar Lasdon Best Dissertation Award.
