Community Environmental Research,
Technology and Information Network
(CERTIN)

The Community Environmental Research, Technology and Information Network (CERTIN), a consortium of Hofstra University, SUNY Agricultural and Technical College at Cobleskill, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, Gilboa-Conesville Central School and Middleburgh High School, was created in response to critical environmental concerns facing upstate New York. Our goals are:

• To enhance science literacy and environmental awareness in rural school districts.
  
  
• To integrate science education and university research, and involve local industries in support of these activities.
  
  
• To provide professional development opportunities to secondary school science teachers.
  
  
• To develop external funding support, through grants, in support of secondary school science teachers and science activities.
  

To achieve these goals, faculty from Hofstra University and the State University of New York Agricultural and Technical College at Cobleskill are working with teachers in grades 7-12 to integrate "hands-on" experiences into the science curricular content.
