• If you're looking for fun with bioinformatics, here's a video game called Origin Unknown from the National Biotechnology Information Facility you can try at home. Neat graphics

• NCBI, which includes, among many others, tools for Blast, protein structure viewers and alignment tools, search tools tool to find entries in Genbank and other DNA and protein databases, and entry into PubMed (a way to search for literature related to your gene or protein).

• BCM Search Launcher, which includes alignment tools and many, many other nucleotide and protein analysis tools. This is also a useful site if NCBI isn't working, as they have some of the same programs residing on their servers.

• A Guide to Molecular Analysis This guide introduces you in greater detail to various types of bioinformatics searches, and includes a more advanced tutorial if you're interested.

• Protein data bank introduction Designed as an educational tool to show students the potential uses of the PDB

• European Bioinformatics Institute A site similar to NCBI, but based in Europe! Especially useful if the NCBI site goes down. Also has sequence alignment tools much like the BCM Search Launcer site.
