Data-Driven Decision-Making
P3 Excel Tutorials
Welcome!
Although educators are expected to work with data to improve student learning, few administrators and teachers have the technical skills necessary to work with raw data, thus creating a dependency on preformatted reports from state departments, testing companies, and/or district offices. The University of Minnesota School Technology Leadership Initiative (STLI) believes in empowerment through technology. These tutorials constitute a set of basic and advanced spreadsheet skills that we believe are useful for data-savvy educators to possess. Please get in touch with us if you would like more information about how we use these and other tools to train educators to work with school and student data.

To view the Excel tutorials on this disc, scroll down and click on the appropriate hyperlinks. The tutorials are in Flash so they should play in any Internet browser (i.e., they are not Windows platform-dependent). Please note that this is a work in progress and that we still are working out a few kinks. If you find that the volume of some of the tutorials is too faint, try wearing ordinary Walkman headphones that are plugged into the headphone jack of your computer.

When practicing your skills using the included training files, save each Excel file onto your computer's hard drive and work with it from there rather than opening it within your Internet browser.

We have included on this disc some tip sheets for the Excel skills below. These tip sheets are intended to complement the tutorials and should not be viewed as comprehensive instructions for these skills.
