George Simon supervises students  holds a bachelor's degree in Meteorology from New York University, a Master's degree in Philosophy from Fordham University, and a Master's degree in Counseling from Fordham University.  After receiving his Counseling degree, he did a three-year externship in Structural Family Therapy at Family Studies, Inc.--since renamed The Minuchin Center for the Family-- where his clinical work with families was supervised by Salvador Minuchin, M.D.  Subsequently, Mr. Simon was appointed to the faculty of The

Minuchin Center, and for a three-year period served as its Managing Director.

 

Currently, he is a visiting faculty member of the Center.  Mr. Simon is also on the faculty of the Family Therapy Program of The Children's Village, Dobbs Ferry, NY.

 

Mr. Simon has published articles in Family Process, the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, and the Journal of Mental Health Counseling.  He is a member of the Advisory Board of The Family Journal:  Counseling and Therapy for Couples and Families.  Along with Salvador Minuchin and Wai-Yung Lee, he is the co-author of Mastering Family Therapy:  Journeys of Growth and Transformation. He is currently completing a second book, tentatively titled Beyond Techniques:  Finding Your Therapeutic Voice.  Mr. Simon's scholarly interests include the self of the therapist, the role of values and worldview in the therapeutic process, and the interface between modern and postmodern therapeutic approaches.

 

In addition to his teaching, supervisory, and scholarly activities,

Mr. Simon maintains an active practice of family and couple therapy.
