In 2007-2008, I am teaching PHYS 11A/PHYS 12A (General Physics Lecture Course, 4 s.h.), and PHYS 11B (General Physics Lab, 4 s.h., Fall 2007 semester only).
The course material includes fundamental laws and principles of mechanics, sound, light, electricity and magnetism. The Fall semester covers kinematics, Newton's laws and their applications to equilibrium and dynamics, oscillations and waves. The Spring semester covers sound waves, charges and fields, electric currents and circuits, optics.
Prerequisites or corequisites for PHYS 11A: MATH 71, 72. Credit given for this course or PHYS 1A, but not for both. Students must take 11B concurrently unless credit has already been received for the equivalent. 11A applies toward the natural science distribution requirement only upon successful completion of the corresponding laboratory course 11B.
Prerequisites or corequisites for PHYS 12A: PHYS 11A, MATH 71, 72. Engineering students are exempt from taking 12B, with approval of adviser. Credit given for this course or PHYS 2A, but not for both. Students must take 12B concurrently unless credit has already been received for the equivalent. 12A applies toward the natural science distribution requirement only upon successful completion of the corresponding laboratory course 12B.
