Esther Fusco is Assistant Professor of Curriculum and Teaching at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Dr. Fusco has published numerous articles on topics including teaching for thinking, use of questioning strategies, and effective instruction. She earned a doctorate at Hofstra University, where he worked with H. Alan Robinson and Harvey Alpert. She did postdoctoral work in administration.
Dr. Fusco was the principal of the Port Jefferson Elementary School for eight years and the principal of Babylon Elementary School for eight years. In Babylon, she also served as the Director of Curriculum K-12 and the Director of Special Education. Dr. Fusco was a Middle School Reading Coordinator and Elementary Gifted Coordinator in Shoreham Wading River School District Dr. Fusco has authored several children's literature programs and numerous articles on literacy, curriculum and instruction. She has completed a series of books on portfolio and assessment, which are designed for teachers and administrators.
The New York State Department has selected Dr. Fusco to serve in their Reading Academy. She works with Districts on Long Island implementing their reading programs that are funded by No Child Left Behind.
Dr. Fusco was named New York State Elementary School Principal of the Year by State Association of Administrators of New York. National Association of Elementary School Administrators and the U.S. Department of Education later named her the National Principal of the Year. In 2006, she was named Teacher of the Year at Hofstra University.
