DORIS P. FROMBERG, Ed.D., is Professor of Education; Director, Early Childhood Teacher Education; and past-chairperson, Department of Curriculum & Teaching, Hofstra University. She has served as a teacher and administrator in public and private schools, as well as director of Teacher corps projects. She is past-president of the National Association of Early Childhood Teacher Educators (NAECTE) Foundation; past-president of the NAECTE; and chairperson of the American Educational Research Association Special Interest Group on Early Childhood Education and Child Development, as well as the American Association of Colleges of Education Special Study Group on Elementary Education. She has served as a member of the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education and a PETE consultant to colleges seeking national accreditation. She was recipient of the NAECTE/Allyn & Bacon Early Childhood Teacher Educator of the Year award (1996). Among her publications are All-Day Kindergarten and Pre-K Curriculum: A Dynamic themes Approach (Routledge, 2012); Play from Birth to Twelve, co-edited with D. (Taylor and Frnacis/Routledge, co-edited with D. Bergen, 2006); Play and Meaning in Early Childhood Education (Allyn & Bacon, 2002); The Full-day Kindergarten 2nd ed. (Teachers College Press, 1995; translated into Chinese and Korean, 1999); The Encyclopedia of Early Childhood Education Garland, co-edited with L.R. Williams, 1992); and Greewood/Praeger Early Childhood Series co-editor with L.R. Williams. [series books include Gordon, T. (2006). Teaching Young Children English as a Second Language; Mindes, G. (2005) Teaching Young Children Social Studies; and Schwartz, S. (2005). Teaching Young Children Mathematics. She is an advocate for high quality early childhood teacher and administrator education.
